$5K reward offered for information regarding vandalism to Sumter sports complex

Sumter officers seek the public's help to identify those responsible for $100,000 in damage to the Patriot Park sports complex that was discovered on Monday, March 25.

Officers responded to a call at the complex after 7:30 a.m. when a walker discovered a possible break-in. 

According to Tonyia McGirt, public information officer for Sumter Police Department, officers found graffiti in black paint in the storage area of the park as well as damage to equipment and electronics, including the heating and air-conditioning units, computers and camera/security system, the concession stand and various supplies and the restrooms. The vandalism happened between 8 p.m. when the complex closed on Sunday and the discovery on Monday morning, McGirt said. 

A reward of $5,000 is available for information leading to an arrest.
