Benny L. Webb, 63, was born on March 23, 1958, in Sumter County, to James and Edna Mae Johnson Webb, who preceded him in death. Mr. Webb passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 15, 2021, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital in Sumter.

He graduated from Mayewood High School, earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Morris College and earned a master's in public administration from Troy State University. He received certifications from the S.C. Law Enforcement Academy, the Federal Bureau of Investigation Command School and the University of Notre Dame.

He worked for the Sumter County Sheriff's Office, S.C. Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission, S.C. Law Enforcement Division, Lancaster Police Department, where he served as chief of police, and Atlantic Beach Police Department, where he served as director of public safety. He was founder and chief executive officer of the Palmetto Center for Law and Justice.

He was married to Dr. Abigail Busby-Webb for 36 years and they have three beautiful daughters, Shaylah Jocelyn of Sumter, Beneshia A'brell of Houston, Texas, and Xaviera Jasmine of New Haven, Connecticut.

To continue his legacy, he leaves his loving wife and daughters; four brothers, George Hardy of Turbeville, James (Bernard) Webb and John Lee Webb of Sumter and Harry (Valerie) Webb of Elliott; five sisters, Fannie Rumph of Mount Vernon, New York, Shirley Clavon, Barbara Levine and Carolyn (Willie) Webb-Prince, all of Sumter, and Edna (Timothy) Palmore of Anniston, Alabama; one aunt, Elizabeth Myers Johnson of Sumter; one great-great-niece, Breelyn Noelle of the home; and a host of loving and devoted family and friends.

In addition to his father and mother, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Elizabeth Washington and Mary Ann Jones.

Public viewing will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Job's Mortuary.

Mr. Webb will be placed in the church at noon on Saturday for viewing until the hour of service.

Homegoing services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Alice Drive Baptist Church, 1305 Loring Mill Road, Sumter, SC 29150 with the Rev. Gary D. Miller officiating and Pastor Alfreda Johnson, eulogist. All attendees are requested to wear facial masks. Interment will follow at St. James Holiness Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 8 p.m. daily at the home, 710 Windrow Drive, Sumter, SC 29150.
