Carolina Anglers Team Trail returns to Santee Cooper lakes

CLARENDON COUNTY -Carolina Anglers Team Trail returns to the Santee Cooper lakes in February with tournaments each Saturday.

CATT was founded in 1977 by local angler Brett Collins.

"Since 1977, we've hosted more than 270 tournaments in South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia," Collins said. "There weren't any fishing tournaments scheduled in February, and we have plenty of people wanting to fish, so we decided to host four tournaments out of John C. Land in February, and on March 6, we'll be hosting a tournament out of Black's Camp."

Collins said that anglers will launch from John C. Land III Fishing Facility, 4404 Greenall Road, Summerton, at first light each Saturday and return at 3 p.m. for the weigh in.

Collins said either one or two anglers would be fishing from each boat with a five-bass limit.

All fish must measure at least 14 inches in length.

"Anglers can fish from either the upper or lower lakes," Collins added.

With cold temperatures expected for Feb. 6, anglers will probably have a hard time luring in a record catch.

"It might be tough this year," Collins said. "Last year, we had a warm February."
