CHRISTOPHER LEVERN MCCOY

Posted

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and son, Christopher Levern McCoy, was born to Margaret Echols McCoy and the late Calvin Levern McCoy and departed this life on Friday, March 22, 2024, to join our Heavenly Father in glory.

Christopher, affectionately known as Chris, was born on March 25, 1971, in Florence, South Carolina. He attended Carver Elementary School and was a graduate of West Florence High School, where he met the love of his life, Dr. Serena W. Canty McCoy. Chris went into the workforce and served a number of years at Florence Truss and Carolina Furniture Works Inc. He was most recently an employee at Lake City Housing Authority. He earned his contractor’s license and worked part-time to help with many housing projects. He could also paint extremely well. He also pursued many entrepreneurship endeavors and was actively working on putting together a trucking company.

Chris had great faith and believed in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He always went out of his way to lend a helping hand to those in need. He greatly enjoyed cooking and could “throw down” in the kitchen, “so to speak,” and was a master grillsman. He loved spending time with his family, fishing and watching animal documentaries. If you knew him, you know that he was a songbird. He loved listening to old-school rhythm and blues along with soul music and would always dance and sing his heart out. Chris was very head-strong, strong-willed and was always determined to complete anything he set his mind to.

Chris had a very, very close relationship with his mother (Margaret) and all of his siblings. They had a special bond, and the memories will be cherished forever.

Chris and Serena were married for 31 blessed years. Their union produced two beautiful girls, Infinity C. Osewa and Melena C. McCoy. He leaves to cherish his legacy his wife, Serena, and daughters; one son-in-law, Ishola Osewa; one grandson, Mordecai Osewa; his mother, Margaret Echols McCoy; father-in-law, the Rev. Dr. Ralph W. Canty Sr. (Toye); mother-in-law, Dr. Jacqueline Wright-Canty; three brothers, Jason McCoy (Pam), Calvin McCoy (Felicia) and Marcus McCoy; one sister, Wyvetra McCoy; three brothers-in-law, Bryant Scarborough, Ralph W. Canty Jr. and Richburg Canty; two sisters-in-law, Dr. Gequana Thomas and Quannice Thomas; one special sister, Mildred Bozier Johnson; one special aunt, Diana McCoy Ellis; one special uncle, Treble McCoy; one goddaughter, Chelsey Sherrell Jackson; one special cousin, Sandra Eaddy; and a host of other aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, respectively, Tom McDaniel, Margaret Echols McDaniel, Hessy McCoy and Pauline McCoy; three aunts, Loretta McCoy, Doris McCoy and Gayle McCoy; one cousin, Clarence (Chucky) Eaddy; and one uncle, Edward McCoy.

Though we mourn this loss, we believe that Chris is resting at peace in the arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We will miss his presence, bubbly personality and infectious laugh. His spirit will forever live in our memories as we take comfort in the faith in knowing that we will meet again one day.
