FROM STAFF REPORTS

The Levi Pearson Scholarship Fund will offer free tax help from 3 to 6 p.m. on Wednesdays at the Harvin Clarendon County Library, 215 N. Brooks St., Manning, or from 3 to 5 p.m. on Mondays at Clarendon County NAACP Branch Office, 21 Railroad Ave., Summerton.

The service is courtesy of the IRS' Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, which provides free basic income tax return preparation to qualified individuals in local communities. IRS-certified volunteers will be on hand to inform taxpayers about special tax credits for which they may qualify.

To have a return prepared by a volunteer, bring valid photo identification; Social Security card for yourself, spouse and dependents; wage and earnings statements (W-2); interest and dividend statements (1099); a copy of last year's return; and any other information concerning income and expenses for the tax year. For joint returns, both spouses must be present.
