Some Halloween events are still happening despite pandemic

Posted

Sumter experienced a host of event cancellations this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and many children and families are wondering whether the spooky holiday will be skipped, as well.

After learning that the Sumter Police Department will not be holding its annual Trunk-Or-Treat event, along with many others in the community cancelled, The Sumter Item compiled a list of Halloween trick-or-treating and other festivities that will commence at the end of the month.

TRICK-OR-TREATING

Alice Drive Baptist Church

Alice Drive will hold a drive-through Treat Street Fall Festival for Halloween at its Loring Mill and Pocalla campuses as well as in Bishopville from 3-5 p.m. on Oct. 25.

At the Loring Mill campus, 1305 Loring Mill Road, participants can expect candy, performances from Dreamworks Dance Academy, pictures and a raffle. Families are encouraged to wear costumes for a family in-car picture.

At the Pocalla Campus, 65 Masters Drive, participants can expect candy, scavenger hunts, raffles and performances from Miss Libby's Dance Academy. There will also be a costume contest, where participants can snap a picture and post it on social media with #ADBCPocallaKids!

In Bishopville, at the Dennis High Memorial Park on Roland Street and Cedar Lane, participants can expect candy, a scavenger hunt, a family in-car picture and a raffle.

Dorr Farms

The Dorr family decided to offer a safe Halloween experience for families at the farm in Gable this year. They will offer a socially distanced trunk-or-treat at 5225 Dorr Acres Road from 5-8 p.m. on Oct. 31. Participants are encouraged to dress up - both children and adults.

Sumter American Legion Farmers Market

Not only can families pick up fresh produce, but they can also dress up for a Tent-or-Treat with the Sumter Farmers Market vendors from noon to 5 p.m. on Oct. 30. The market is at 2 S. Artillery Drive.

Scream Acres No Scare Trick-or-Treat

Visit the not-so-scary haunted Bishopville estate at 1137 Old Camden Road for its fourth-annual trick-or-treat event from 3-6 p.m. on Oct. 25 and 31. For $7 per person, children can walk through a haunted house stealing candy from monsters with the lights on. After the house, the kids can also ride a scare-free hayride.
