Hall of Fame member Joni Brown conducts band clinic at Manning High School

Joni Brown, member of the South Carolina Band Director Association Hall of Fame, conducted a clinic with Manning High School Symphonic Band on Feb. 28. Brown is an awarded educator with more than 30 years of experience.

She served on the founding committee for organization of the Sumter Community Concert Band in 1982 and served as assistant conductor for two years before being appointed as conductor from 1984 to 1988.

Brown was chosen by Bates Middle School faculty as Teacher of the Year in 1987 and was named the Teacher of the Year for Sumter School District 17 in 1996-97. She plays clarinet in the Palmetto Concert Band and the Sumter Community Concert Band. She is an active adjudicator, clinician and guest conductor throughout the Southeast and is a National Board Certified teacher. While at MHS for the clinic, Brown conducted a woodwind sectional and a band lab workshop with the full ensemble. The MHS Band gratefully received her instruction and guidance as it prepares for the SCBDA Concert Performance Assessment.
