Jesse Walker's life's journey ended on Monday, Feb. 22, 2021, at Prisma Health Richland Hospital, Columbia.

He was born on Nov. 6, 1945, in Wedgefield, to the late Jerry Walker Jr. and Mary Shadd Walker. He accepted Christ at an young age at Orangehill RMUE (now Orangehill Independent Methodist Church), where he served as pastor steward, class leader and member of the male chorus. He was a member of Summerton Masonic Lodge 366. Upon graduation from Ebenezer High School in 1964, he moved to Port Chester, New York. He was a certified HVAC and auto body technician and a member of the Brothers Motorcycle Club. Upon his return to South Carolina, he worked at several auto body shops, then created Walker's Auto Body Shop. He also worked faithfully at Walker and Walker Poultry Farm and later ventured on his own with Jesse Walker Poultry Farm.

He leaves to cherish precious memories: five children, Jeffrey Walker and Jacqueline Walker of Charleston, Kenneth (Norma) Walker of Hampton, Virginia, Jonathan Walker and Tiara Walker of Wedgefield; grandchildren, Tesha, Xavier, Tyvon, Jessica, La'Kendra, Ricari, Jaquire, Paris and Larone; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lewis (Constance) Walker of Sumter and Earl (Valeria) Walker of Perry, Georgia; two sisters, Mary (Therin) McCants of Columbia and Jeannette English of Mount Vernon, New York; two sisters-in-law, Fannie Walker of Sumter and Patty I. Howerton of Danville, Virginia; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Thelma I. Walker; a sister, Mary Carter; three brothers, James Walker, Leroy Dinkins and Willie Walker Sr.

Public viewing will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. today.

Final viewing will begin at noon on Saturday at Orangehill Independent Methodist Church, Wedgefield, followed by celebration of life graveside services at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Darrell A. James, pastor, officiating and Dr. Lewis Walker Jr., eulogist.

Due to COVID-19, facial masks are required at viewings and service.
