JOHN HENRY GIBSON

CHERAW - John Henry Gibson, 91, passed on Wednesday, May 20, 2020, at home surrounded by his family.

Born in Islandton, he was a son of the late Brantley and Sally Sauls Gibson. He was the widower of Mary Louise Brabham Gibson. He enjoyed farming, working in his yard, fishing at Santee, gardening, going to the beach and being outdoors. He was a baseball coaching assistant in the P-15 baseball league in Sumter. He had served as a deacon of Cheraw First Baptist.

Surviving are his son, Donald (Janice) Gibson of Atwater, California; a daughter, Delores Gainey of Cheraw; grandchildren, Amanda Gainey, Allison Gainey, Corey (Amanda) Gibson and Adam (Jamie) Gibson; great-grandchildren, Cameron Gibson, Caylor Gibson, Colton Gibson, Tyler Gibson and Tanner Gibson; sisters, Lorraine Priester of North Augusta and Valerie "Sissy" Hiers of Walterboro; and his fur babies, "Cricket" and "Zoey."

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife listed above as well as brothers, Norman "Sonny" Gibson, Howard "Pam" Gibson, Morris "Bubba" Gibson and Charles Gibson; and a sister, Gertrude Crosby.

A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens, Cheraw.
