MANNING — Joyce G. Miller, 95, passed away Friday, April 12, 2024, at the home of her daughter.
Born Feb. 13, 1929, in Portsmouth, England, she was the daughter of the late Henry Charles Neale and the late Caroline Mabel Lane Neale. She graduated from Pittman Commercial College for Secretaries in England. She came to America from England on the Queen Elizabeth ship in 1959. She was highly educated and well read. She was very active in civic and political matters in both Sumter and Clarendon counties and wrote many letters to the editor. She was employed at Naomi and Warner and for attorney John Hoar. She later was self-employed and served the area lawyers with title searches.
Survivors include two daughters, Caroline Dyson (Jeff) of Manning and Iva-Marie Stone of Moody, Alabama; four grandchildren, Aaron Dyson (Norma), Natalie Dyson, Scott Stone and Mollie Stone; a great-granddaughter, Madelyn Dyson; a brother, David William Mann (Moya) of East Sussex, England; a niece, Dominique Phago; a nephew, Philip Mann; and great-nephews and great-nieces, Christopher Mann, Lonita Mann, James Phago and Isabella Phago.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 14, 2023, at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home of her daughter, Caroline.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sumter SPCA, 1140 S. Guignard Drive, Sumter, SC 29150.
Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
