MAGGIE MCCOY SKIPPER

Maggie McCoy Skipper was born on Aug. 30, 1938, one of 14 siblings to the late Jimmy and Darkie McCoy Davis. She departed this life on Friday, Nov. 20, 2020, at NHC Healthcare in Sumter.

Maggie, as she was called by many, received her education in the public schools of Sumter County. She worked at Exide Battery, until her health declined. Maggie was a lifelong member of Congruity Presbyterian Church (USA) in Gable. Her faith in God never wavered. Maggie will always be remembered by her kindness to others and her wisdom. She always wanted to help others, especially her family.

She leaves to cherish her memory: three daughters, Carlene (Kingdom) McCoy, Sandra McCoy and Teresa (Reggie) Dozier, all of Sumter; a special granddaughter reared as a daughter, Courtney (Tony) Jacobs; 13 grandchildren, whom she loved and cherished dearly; 26 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ella Rose Hayward and Sarah Evans, both of Sumter, and Mary Jane McCoy of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; two sisters-in-law, Marie Davis and Geneva McCoy, both of Sumter; a special godchild, Ceanna (Cece Rider) Baxter; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Maggie was preceded in death by her husband, James T. Skipper; two sons, Robert and William McCoy; one daughter, Marcella McCoy; a grandson, Xavier L. McCoy; seven brothers; and three sisters.

Public viewing will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Job's Mortuary.

Mrs. Skipper will be placed in the church at noon on Wednesday for viewing until the hour of service.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at Salem Chapel & Heritage Center, 101 S. Salem Ave., Sumter, SC 29150 with Pastor Alonza Washington officiating. Entombment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter, 6695 Hidden Haven Road, Sumter, SC 29154.
