Manning Rotary Club to host Oct. 10 CCSD Board of Trustees Candidate Forum

Posted

MANNING - Manning Rotary Club is hosting a Clarendon County School District Board of Trustees Candidate Forum at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, at Weldon Auditorium, 7 Maple St.

All of the 27 candidates who are vying for the nine spots on the board have been invited to attend the forum.

This will be the first fully elected board for the county's consolidated school district.

On July 1, 2021, then-Clarendon School District 1 and then-Clarendon School District 3 consolidated to form Clarendon School District 4 with a board of trustees representing those two districts that was selected by the Clarendon County Legislative Delegation. Prior to consolidation of the two districts, CSD1 had a board of trustees with both elected and appointed representation while CSD3 had a fully elected school board.

On July 1, 2022, then-Clarendon School District 4 consolidated with then-Clarendon School District 2 to form one public school system in Clarendon County, the Clarendon County School District. The board of trustees representing CSD2 was historically an appointed board. The board of trustees for the newly formed district was selected by the Clarendon County Legislative Delegation, with an elected board of trustees to take office in 2025.

Voters across Clarendon County will go to the polls on Nov. 5 to select the new board members for the CCSD from the following candidates:

District 1: Kim D. Jones and Dr. Falecia L. Miller

District 2: John D. Bonaparte, Robert Allen McFadden and Loretta W. Pollard

District 3: Gregory Bradley, Roger Jowers and Johnny L. Lawson

District 4: Linda P. Lemon, Lee Mahoney and Shelley Richburg

District 5: Eleazer Leazer Carter, Mike Shorter and Margaret Walker

District 6: Bobby Fleming, Robert W. Kolb, Kenneth Lovorn, Lakisha Samuel and LaNette Samuels Cooper

District 7: George Frierson, Amy Green and Ron Wingard

District 8: John R. Hardy, Jennifer Howard Powell and Darren Wilson

District 9: Ceth Land and Jameel Zamir

On Oct. 10, a panel will ask the candidates from each district questions, and each candidate will have the same amount of time to answer the questions. The public will not be allowed to ask questions at this time; however, at the meet and greet after the forum, the public will have a chance to meet the board member representing their district.

If anyone has any questions, please contact Johnson James at (803) 460-2144 or Leigh Ann Maynard at (803) 460-4811.
