MARGARET 'MAGGIE' FIDLER RIVERS

Margaret “Maggie” Fidler Rivers, 90, widow of John Townsend “Bud” Rivers Jr., died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2025, at Agape Hospice House of Lexington.

Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late James Ray Fidler and Margaret Ballard Fidler.

Mrs. Rivers was a member of Hebron Presbyterian Church and a sustaining member of the Sumter Junior Welfare League. She was retired office manager of Rivers Family Farm.

Surviving are two sons, John Townsend Rivers III (Donna) of Sumter and Navy Capt. Ray F. Rivers, CHC, USN (Paula) of Silverdale, Washington; and 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Margaret Hiller; a brother, Dr. Phillip Ray Fidler; and a sister, Eulia “Jo” Fidler Gaymon.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10, 2025, at Hebron Presbyterian Church with Navy Capt. Ray F. Rivers, CHC, USN, and the Rev. Tim Whited officiating.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jamie Fidler, John Janes, Jay Janes, Ricky McDaniel, William James and Ken Reese.

The family will receive friends at a Celebration of Life service immediately following the graveside service at Bethel Methodist Church Family Life Center, 5575 Lodebar Road, Sumter.
