Funeral services for Mary E. Smith will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 20, 2024, at Johnson Memorial Center, 8031 Black River Rd., Rembert, with Pastor David Williams officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park, Sumter.   
The public may view on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, from 1-5 p.m. at Palmer Memorial Chapel, 304 S. Main St., Sumter.
Mary was born in Sumter County to the late David and Cleo Loyd Nixon.  She transitioned on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at National Healthcare in Sumter.  
As a devoted Christian, Mary served diligently as the president of the usher board and a faithful member of the Household of Faith Holiness Church of Camden. Later, she became a member of the Johnson Memorial Center where she loved hearing the word of God being taught and fellowshipping with the saints.
She was united in holy matrimony to the love of her life, Harrison Smith Sr., for 53 years and to their loving union, six children were born. She worked at Hampton Nursing Center for 10 years where she served as an CNA.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband, Harrison Smith Sr.; a daughter, Gloria Yvonne Davis; and four siblings, Cleo Anderson, Sadie Croom, George and Hazel Nixon.
Survivors are her children: Tia (Nikita) Wallace of Charlotte, North Carolina, Harrison (Debra) Smith of Sumter, Christopher (Teresa) Smith of Columbia, Fred (Charlene) Smith of Sumter and Corey Smith of the home; two sisters-in-law, Betty Council and Mary Lou (Frank) Maple; a brother-in-law, Joseph Anderson; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; three sisters, Deanna Wardlaw of Columbia, Minnie Beatty and Janie Hardy of Dalzell; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
