Nominations open for March's Carolina Grove Teacher of the Month contest

Carolina Grove co-owner Jim Mayes Jr., right, recognized Furman Middle School's Ashley Cappelmann as February's Teacher of the Month on Wednesday.

By earning the most votes from the public of four finalists in The Sumter Item's online contest, Cappelmann was recognized in the newspaper and online and received a $50 gift card to Carolina Grove, the contest's sponsor.

Nominations are now open for March's Teacher of the Month contest. To nominate your favorite K-12 teacher from a public or private school in Sumter, go to www.theitem.com/teacher.

Four finalists will be chosen by The Sumter Item staff, and the public will vote on a winner to be announced the fourth Wednesday of the month. Nominations are open through March 15, with voting open March 16-22.
