Opinion: Festival probably brought positive attention to Sumter academy, district's programs

Posted

I am writing in response to an article in the Saturday, Nov. 9, edition of The Sumter Item. Concern was expressed over participation by several of Sumter School District's performing organizations in the Ujima Community Festival, sponsored by Ragin Preparatory Christian Academy.

District trustee Shawn Ragin is founder/headmaster of that school.

The festival was an intergenerational and interracial event that was open to the public. I expect it brought positive attention to Ragin Preparatory Christian Academy. Concurrently, it highlighted impressive programs of Sumter School District.
