Letter to the editor: Pennies for Progress, AKA millions for politicians

Posted

Is it not curious that Sumter's power brokers deem it "progress" to levy yet another tax upon residents who are already burdened with stifling inflation? Likewise frustrating, the benefitting projects earlier listed by The Item fail to reflect community advancement for the estimated $117,000,000 windfall; on the other hand, what is evident is a quid pro quo exchange among competing factions seeking additional accessories for their constituencies and probable additional political leverage for themselves.

How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time …

How do you lose your independence? One bit at a time … or in the current case, 1% at a time.

P. THOMAS
