NU MASTER CHAPTER OF BETA SIGMA PHI

A business meeting to discuss service projects was held on Oct. 18 at the home of Dot Edwards, where a soup and cornbread lunch was served. The chapter supported The Salvation Army with a monetary donation for Thanksgiving dinners.

Food and other items are collected monthly to support United Ministries, and a monetary donation is made at Christmas time.

After the meeting, members traveled to Sumter Pregnancy Center for a tour and explanation of the services the center provides.

On Nov. 13, several members and guests traveled to Myrtle Beach for a Thanksgiving buffet lunch, followed by attending the Christmas show at the Alabama Theater. The Nov. 1 meeting was held at the home of Fran Kolar. After lunch, she presented a program on her visit to the Isle of Wight off the West Coast of England.

The Nov. 29 meeting was held at the home of Liz Wild. The program was a reading called "We are the last ones" telling about life during the '40s, '50s and '60s and during the Depression and wars.

The annual Christmas party was held on Dec. 8 at Carolina Skies Club at Shaw Air Force Base. This year's crazy Santa game included each person bringing a dessert; numbers were passed instead of gifts, and corresponding numbers were placed on each dessert box. Each member then collected the box with their number.

At our second meeting in January 2019, members will meet at Sip & Gogh in Sumter for a paint party. Meeting times have changed to 1 p.m. rather than 1:30 each first and third Thursday of the month, September through May each year. The first meeting in 2019 will be held at the home of Libby Singletary on Jan. 3.
