Sumter coroner releases name of Broad Street shooting victim

Officials say the person who died in a shooting on Broad Street Friday night was a 27-year-old man from Mayesville.

The incident occurred near Morgan and Woodlawn avenues Friday evening, according to Sumter’s coroner’s office and city police department. Alki Williams, 27, of Willow Street in Mayesville, was pronounced dead on scene after being struck by gunfire, Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker said. No other injuries have been reported at this time, according to Tonyia McGirt, public information officer for the Sumter Police Department.

An autopsy will be performed at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston on Tuesday. Williams’ next of kin has been notified.

The Sumter Police Department and the Sumter County Coroner’s Office is investigating.
