A 46-year-old Sumter man was killed in a multiple vehicle wreck on U.S. 15 Tuesday evening.
The accident occurred at the intersection of U.S. 15 South and Beulah Cuttino Road at about 6:20 p.m.
Jamie Montgomery was the driver of a Ford mustang that was traveling northbound on U.S. 15 South when he attempted to pass a vehicle and struck another vehicle that was traveling southbound, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. David Jones.

Montgomery was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead on scene, said Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker.

Montgomery was not wearing a seatbelt during the wreck, Jones said. There was also a passenger in Montgomery's vehicle that was entrapped and later airlifted to Richland Prisma Health Hospital for life-threatening injuries.
The next of kin has been notified, and an autopsy will be performed Friday morning at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Sumter County Coroner’s Office is investigating.
