Sumter Today: A new park honors Sumter’s relationship with the military

Posted

It has been 75 years since Sumter became home to Shaw Air Force Base, and local officials honored the service of their neighbors and the U.S. military by opening a new park dedicated to our veterans.
A ribbon cutting was held at Sumter Veterans Park off U.S. 378 next to Shaw, and the park is a public space to put Sumter’s slogan of Uncommon Patriotism into action.
We stopped by the ceremony to learn more about the park, which was set into motion back in 2014.
