Sumter Today: Masks are no longer required by city mandate inside businesses and restaurants in the City of Sumter

Posted

The mask requirement, which first went into effect last July, expired this month, and Sumter City Council chose not to extend it.

Instead, they opted to pass a resolution encouraging mask use inside public spaces and businesses. Businesses can still choose to require masks be worn on their premises.

As new cases remain at levels they were at last fall, about 28,000 Sumter County residents have received at least one vaccine shot, in line with Sumter County’s population level.

Tomorrow, we will have coverage of the weekend’s countywide litter cleanup, information on an arts and craft show happening this weekend after being canceled last year, and a conversation with CCTC’s new president, Dr. Kevin Pollock. We’ll also have reactions from local community leaders and activists to yesterday’s verdict in the trial of former Minnesota police officer Derek Chauvin.
