Sumter School District administration surprised three district teacher of the year finalists on Friday afternoon with personal messages on their recognition, and two were delivered right to their doorstep. With schools being closed since mid-March because of the pandemic, Superintendent Penelope Martin-Knox and her staff had to get creative. They came up with the idea of the personal home visits outside in the front yard. The district plans to name its district teacher of the year in August, just before the beginning of the new school year.
