Funeral services for William Edward DeLaine will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Mt. Pisgah AME Church, 217 W. Bartlette St., Sumter, with the Rev. Laddie N. Howard officiating.

The public may view from noon on Saturday until the hour of service at Mt. Pisgah Church.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 6 p.m. today at the DeLaine's residence, 1321 Covent Garden Drive, Sumter.

William Edward DeLaine, 88, transitioned on Saturday, March 16, 2019, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital.

Born in Morristown, New Jersey, he was a son of the late Woodard A. DeLaine Sr. and Josephine Gregory DeLaine. He was a graduate of Morristown High School Class of 1948. William served his country in the United States Army and fought in the Korean War. He was employed with the Morristown Police Department and retired in 1984. He was a former member of the Tyrian Lodge, No. 34 F&AM, P.H.A. In 1995, he moved to Sumter and joined Mt. Pisgah AME Church.

Survivors include a loving daughter, Gwyneth Delaine-Dale and her husband, James Dale, of Monroe, North Carolina; a granddaughter, Lea; two great-grandchildren, Zoe and Zavian; his only sister, Jean Walton of Sumter; two nephews; two nieces; his former wife, Wilma Croft DeLaine of Monroe; a stepson, Edward A. Simmons; and a host of other relatives.
