EUGENE PERRY RHINER

Eugene Perry Rhiner, 90, widower of Hazel Marie Watts Rhiner, died Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2024, at Prisma Health Tuomey.

Born May 14, 1934, in Godwin, N.C., he was a son of the late Jesse Franklin Rhiner and Bela Beasley Rhiner. Mr. Rhiner was a member of Crosspoint Baptist Church. He retired from the U. S. Air Force after 20 years of service and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He also retired from Crescent Tool Company. In his younger years, he enjoyed planting and tending to his vegetable garden. Later, he enjoyed traveling and camping with his late wife and was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves.

Survivors include two daughters, Cindy Sweat (Richard) of St. Helena Island and Gina Hoover (Heath) of Sumter; a stepdaughter, Betty Esch (Dennis) of Myrtle Beach; three grandchildren, Kim Gilbert (Dave), Charleen Harroff (Jody) and Cody Hoover; four great-grandchildren, Emily Barker, Caleb Harroff, Cameron Gilbert and Christopher Gilbert; a sister, Shirley Grillo of Godwin; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Gilbert Rhiner and W.H. Rhiner; a sister, Doris Butler; and a stepson, Wayne Outlaw.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home Chapel officiated by the Rev. Tim Simpson. Burial with full military honors will be in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home.
