LENA VIRGINIA 'JENNY' LEWIS SUMNER

Lena Virginia “Jenny” Lewis Sumner, 83, widow of Howard Clifton Sumner Sr., died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2024, at the Sumter Terrace.

Born in Mullins, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Mark McCoy Lewis and Lena Pauline Johnson Lewis. Mrs. Sumner was a member of Alice Drive Baptist Church. She retired from Sumter Social Security Office. She was a member of Sumter Unit 15 American Legion Auxiliary, the Beta Sigma Phi-Nu Master Chapter and Red Hat Society.

Surviving are two sons, Howard C. Sumner Jr. (Danita) and Richard D. Sumner; a daughter, Cheryl S. Huggins (Marcus); two brothers, Larry Lewis and Tom Lewis; three sisters, Alice Ammons, Sara Buffkin and Willadean Moore (John); seven grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 19, 2024, in the chapel of Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Danny Settle officiating.

Burial will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Florence National Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home.
