Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker has released the name of the person found lying near a county home on Saturday morning.

D’ante Archie, 20, of Sumter, was pronounced dead at a Byas Road home in the Cane Savannah area from a gunshot wound, according to Baker.

Mark Bordeaux, public information officer for Sumter County Sheriff's Office, said Sheriff Anthony Dennis, deputies, command officers and investigators responded to the scene after a call of an unconscious person found near the home came in at 9:49 a.m. on Saturday. Upon arrival, it was determined Archie had been shot and the vehicle parked in the roadway belonged to him.

Dennis said this shooting may relate to a shooting reported on Duffie Drive at about 2 a.m. the same day.

Next of kin has been notified and an autopsy will be performed at Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

An investigation is ongoing and more information will be released as it becomes available.
