UPDATE: Sumter sheriff confirms death of child in county shooting; coroner releases name

Sumter County Sheriff Anthony Dennis confirmed the child struck by gunfire on Monday is deceased.

On behalf of Dennis, Mark Bordeaux, public information officer for Sumter County Sheriff's Office, announced the 9-year-old victim who was shot after multiple gunshots were fired into a home early Monday passed away on Wednesday morning. 

Gregory Robinson Jr., 9, of Sumter, died at Prisma Health Richland in Columbia from a gunshot injury, said Sumter Coroner Robbie Baker. 

Next of kin has been notifed and an autopsy has been scheduled for next Tuesday, Oct. 15, at Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. 

The sheriff's office will release more information once it is available.
