Synovus Bank has named Stephen Williamson as the market executive for Sumter effective Sept. 30.

Williamson will lead the bank's commercial banking efforts in Sumter and assume responsibility for the geographic market's strategic initiatives and direction. Williamson will succeed Melissa "Boo" White, who will retire in early 2025 after a 20-year career with Synovus as the Sumter market leader.

"Stephen's strong banking expertise and deep roots in Sumter will serve him well as he steps into this role," said John Griggs, Synovus Central South Carolina region executive. "In succeeding Boo, Stephen's extensive leadership abilities and client-centric relationships make him a natural fit at Synovus as we deliver on our purpose to enable our team members, clients and communities to reach their full potential. Boo's contributions to Synovus and the Sumter community have been extraordinary, and we're grateful for her many years of service. We congratulate Boo on her upcoming and well-earned retirement."

Williamson brings more than 10 years of experience in the banking industry. He most recently served as vice president, commercial banker at Bank of Clarendon and as a South Carolina cluster market leader for Truist. Williamson is the president of the Rotary Club of Sumter - The Gamecock City and serves on the board of the Greater Sumter Chamber of Commerce. He earned his bachelor's degree in Business Administration in Economics from the University of South Carolina.

White will help Williamson in his transition to Synovus and his new role.
