LAUREN ASHLEIGH GALLOWAY

Lt. Lauren Ashleigh Galloway, 39, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 25, 2024, after a long battle with ovarian cancer.

A Celebration of Lauren’s life was held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2024, at Impact Church in Rock Hill. Burial followed in Forest Hills Cemetery with full honors.

Lauren was a native of Sumter. She earned her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from the University of South Carolina. She was a leader and a mentor to many throughout her 12-year career with the Tega Cay Police Department. Her peers often reached out to her for her support, wisdom and caring heart. In her role as instructor with the Training Unit, Lauren worked with new officers from their date of hire until their first solo day on patrol. She also enjoyed her work with the 911 Driving School. In 2016, she became a classroom and driving instructor and examiner. Lauren also enjoyed being in the outdoors.

Lauren is survived by her spouse, Shay Marie Thompson-Galloway; her parents, Robert Eugene Galloway Jr. and Kimberly Jackson Galloway of Sumter; her brothers, Clayton Walker Galloway of West Columbia and Christopher Jackson Galloway of Charlotte, North Carolina, and their respective spouses; her paternal grandfather, Robert Eugene Galloway Sr. of Sumter; and three precious nieces. Lauren is also survived by her in-laws, Pat Thompson and Ed Thompson; her sisters-in-law, Katie “Klue” Chapman and Erin Everett and brother-in-law, Jay Thompson, and their respective spouses; and numerous beloved aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Virginia “Jenny” Jackson; maternal grandfather, Van Hugh “Buck” Jackson; and paternal grandmother, Betty Fickling Galloway. Lauren was well-loved, supported and encouraged by her brothers and sisters of the Tega Cay Police Department, and they will miss her greatly.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to TCPD Camp Cadet or to Holiday with Heroes. These donations can be mailed to 7725 Tega Cay Drive, Tega Cay, SC 29708.
